Ontarians for the Arts

Our name reflects our desire to be inclusive, arts-focused, and provincial in scope.

To get the work started, eight people have volunteered to serve on this new movement’s steering committee. In alphabetical order, we are:

Katherine Carleton (co-chair)

Èric Dubeau

Rosslyn Jacob Edwards

Glenn Hodgins

Laurence Lemieux

Amy Mushinski

Bruce Pitkin

Charles Smith (co-chair)

Work is underway:

We’ve had a number of steering committee meetings, members of our group have now met with the two opposition culture critics, and we’re simultaneously building a working structure and putting some foundational documents in place, including terms of reference (which you can view online, here).

The work plan for the next few months includes:

  • Developing a platform for the arts, in consultation with the community;

  • Organizing meetings between constituents and MPPs and provincial candidates in as many Ontario ridings as possible in January 2018;

  • Using the input from these meetings, and the energy and imagination of the community, to inform an arts awareness campaign that artists, arts workers, and arts supporters across the province can animate;

  • Building the virtual infrastructure necessary to engage and organize people across the province;

  • Securing tangible support from artists, arts workers, and arts supporters across the province, so that this ambitious plan can roll out.
